Need some audiocontrol in this video. Absolutely best quality amplifiers I’ve ever had the privilege to install.

  5. Bryan Findley on January 14, 2021 at 11:36 pm

Based on my experience and quality for the money, these would be my personal picks:
    Head unit – Kenwood
    Amplifiers – Rockford Fosgate
    Speakers / Subs – Kicker
Yes, I realize there may be better brands out there, but at a certain point the cost just gets stupid.

Back when I was fitting radios, 20 odd years ago, we called JBL, Junk But Loud. I think Soundstream got bad about 10 or 15 years ago. Polk Audio are usually the speakers I have gone for for the past 10 years or so, good quality / price ratio

  13. SoCal Golf on January 14, 2021 at 11:52 pm

I have an 02 Mustang GT convertible and I have an old school a/d/s/ PQ 20 bridged for my front using Polk Audio components I have a ( Purchased back in 2013)Sound Stream REF 4.920 Bridged to 2 Morel 12" Ultimo subs as well as a over kill Sound stream (2013 Purchase) REF 2.640 for the Polk Audio components in the rear. I have a Kenwood Excelon DMX907S head unit I have just received from a friend who has had it for a bit just had to recover some of his initial investment(Didn’t tell wife before purchasing) LOL.. but have not replaced my single din Pioneer I have running things … it sounds pretty good just its getting pretty cold out so I have no desire to deal with the elements to install my new deck. I hammer my sound stream amps pretty hard on a daily and they have had zero issues BUT I will not purchase anything but Audio Control in the Future. Its sad that a/d/s/ no longer exists as that PQ20 is so nice.

I bought a 2004 Nissan titan new which had the Rockford Fosgate system in it. Loved it! Was the best factory system at the time I think. I remember the 2004 Pontiac GTO had the blaupunkt system in it. It sounded pretty awesome then. I guess nowadays they arent that great anymore

Not sure if you’re ever coming back to this video for my question but I have 2.
    1. What rockford 10 and 12 inch subs were made around 200-2002?
    2. I’m having a dilemma right now. I have these old like 18 year old kenwood dual mag components in my car still and I want to do away with them. I’ve been looking at morel 6.5 components, infinity ref-6530cx, and CT sounds 6.5 component speakers. Separate tweeters. I’m not sure what to get but I just need something that will sound clean on my jvc kw-r930bts head unit not looking into amps as of now. I just need something that has clarity and clean crisp highs to blend with my 2 Rockford subwoofers. What range of wattage and sensitivity should I look for since I’m using a head unit for power? What certain component speakers do you have in mind? Bass from the speakers I dont mind but I’m willing to sacrifice that for clarity and clean but not piercing sounds from the tweeters.
Also I asked about the rockford subs because I My dad got 2 installed in I believe 2001 or 2002 and the old rockford logo is on the sides of the magnet and it’s a black subwoofer black magnet and cone surface. the custom box is so huge and it looks like a closed bandpass box with 6 holes facing the front of the car and the subs are sitting up. Its gonna be hell to take it out and I can see a little looking through the holes but haven’t had any luck

$750,000.00 is not a sign of quality. It is a target for idiots with more money then brains. The same idiots that spend $30,000 or more for interconnects and speaker wire. Focal makes decent speakers but they want way to much money for them. SB Acoustics, Dayton Audio and few others make speakers that are just as good but are reasonably priced.

Orion amps kick ass and when they are done kicking ass they kick some more ass. If you want power above and beyond their rated power, go Orion. 10,000 watts from a 5,000 watt amp and that’s RMS. They are current hungry beasts but that’s what it takes to make noize.

RF is good. They have been around long enough to know how to make good gear. You never mention any thing about their signal processing units and DSP though.

The person over there at Sony who is in charge of designing their head unit face plates needs to go back to designing toys. Sony has good sound quality but their feature implementation and childish designs are just aggravating. I have one of their higher end units and it is like pulling teeth just to cycle through the folder structure on a USB thumb drive. It takes for ever. Their amps are all consumer grade and are all over the place in terms of quality and reliability. Most manufactures design a product line up with amps that are designed on the same basic platform with similar build quality and components. So when you open up two amps of the same line but different power ratings they look similar inside and perform in that regard as well. Not Sony though. They just throw any old amp in the line up and you never know if it will perform anything like the others in the line up. Usually not. Oh well.

Pioneer has the same problem with designing there face plates as Sony. They target teenagers with flashing lights and cheep molded plastic. They where my go to head unit for a long time but not so much anymore. They need to make 4 volts their default line level output instead of 2 volts like they have on the vast majority of their offerings. 2 volts on the head unit means high gains on the amps and distortion at the speakers.

Eclipse…..Back in the 90’s they where synonyms with sound quality. A bit pricey but top notch gear. RIP

Alpine designs their head units more for adults. They try and keep their designs clean and straight forward with an emphasis on sound quality. What I don’t like about Alpine is every thing is an add on for an additional cost. They are all ready more expensive than the others and when you get done adding blue tooth, i-phone interface and GPS or what ever it get’s to be too much. Never cared for their speakers and Neo magnets loose their magnetism with heat and have no business being stuffed in the door of a car where the temperature can be well over 150 degrees Fahrenheit on a hot summer day. Yes I said Fahrenheit. They may sound good just after they are installed but by the end of an Australian summer bouncing around the out back they probably won’t be playing anything like they did.

That’s just my subjective opinion anyways even though nobody asked for it.

  25. Sam S on January 15, 2021 at 12:06 am

Can you tell me, when the fk did the price of car audio skyrocket? Stepped out for a couple years when you could get a set of JBL P660 comp. Speakers for $160,jl c5 cost about$5-600. Now they all doubled or trippled wtf! Regretting selling my JBL gto75.4 II amp now 🙁

EVERYONE asking "what about this brand?"
I state at the beginning of the video that I’m only going to talk about brands that I have had hands on time with, and if I don’t mention a brand it doesn’t mean I haven’t heard of it, it just means I can’t give any experience based opinions on it.
