i get this alot. my stereo sounds so good. moving along. ive heard on a few of your videos about tweeter placement. why is it that most car makers put tweeters high on the door or top of the dash and mid bass driver in the bottom of the door ? this is so common. many models and makes.

  2. Marc Mathes on February 10, 2021 at 5:22 pm

watching this video for 2nd time need good tip’s on placement!

  3. Robert Coffey on February 10, 2021 at 5:23 pm

So do like Volvo is doing with the Bowers & Wilkens audio in the 90 series of cars? Tweeter right next to the woofer in the upper door card and the mid-bass woofer in the lower door card. I only say that because it’s so uncommon to find a car where they appear to actually care about proper audio.

  4. ziptieracer on February 10, 2021 at 5:23 pm

I have been slowly working my way through all your videos. They are entertaining and sometimes informative. Being somewhat of a car audio noob, this video was quite informative and the solid list of links provided in the description was quite nice. Thank you very much. I thought this video was a nice balance of giving a lot of good information, but still being entertaining enough to keep me from nodding off. I will keep binge watching your videos till I get caught up.

  5. They won't fish themselves' on February 10, 2021 at 5:23 pm

so are coaxial speakers a better choice for the doors due to the 2 speakers being close together?

  6. Malan Lombard on February 10, 2021 at 5:27 pm

I just finished my first build in 10 years, used a lot of your advise! So this is a BIG thank you, and yes, still watching your crazy daily videos for laughs

  7. Floyd Adcock on February 10, 2021 at 5:27 pm

You are knowledgeable and hilarious winning combo! Working a 2016 F150 setup and you have great information. The comment about the kids from the 90’s is spot on. I do not see kids riding around bumping like we did. Every other car in the early / mid 90’s was thumping. Bring it back Doug BRING IT BACK!!! lol!!

  8. WorldPolice82 on February 10, 2021 at 5:28 pm

This is one of the best videos yet. I’m going through my system piece by piece to finally do it right. Keep these up!

I mounted my tweeters wrong Doug I put them beside the side mirrors still sounds good to me

  12. Batte Mann on February 10, 2021 at 5:32 pm

Great information! I have been in the car audio game a long time and I learned so much in this video. Just installed a bit one plumbed to a 300/4 actively powering a set of JL C5-650s and a 500/1 powering a 10w6 stealth box. I broke the rule and mounted the tweeters higher in the door because of how tight the cab is and the passenger’s legs blocked the tweeter. Hopefully the time alignment and independent level control will help with the odd staging.

  13. Rex Holes on February 10, 2021 at 5:34 pm

I find a good component speaker in the front makes a huge difference, most of the information in music is in the midrange so having nice clear mids is going to help the sound alot

  14. focus inc on February 10, 2021 at 5:35 pm

by far the best post ive seen by you. thanks alot. id like the sound out of my system…but i have a convertible.

Help! I have a 91 Nissan D21 KA24 and need altenators, how did they do it in the old days? I never paid attention. I had a 1964 Biscayne.

  16. Richard R on February 10, 2021 at 5:37 pm

Alright, I got an 05 trailblazer. They have a 6.5 in the door and a 3.5 in the dash. If I put a 6.5 mid woofer in the door, a 3.5 coaxial in the dash and a tweet in the A pillar, would I be okay? Or should I just put a 4" Dayton "full range" in the dash to take up the higher range and omit the tweets?

  17. lkjyuiop on February 10, 2021 at 5:39 pm

Can you use hi end spl speakers like 12” for home audio 8 ohm

  18. Trishanu Ray on February 10, 2021 at 5:40 pm

  20. Eric Marcus on February 10, 2021 at 5:40 pm

heh, am I good? I would say yeah, I am. Shit, I made cardboard boxes sound good they are being used as satellites for the 2.1 PC speaker set up. I put them together back in 2011 and now it’s 2018 and no sign of the cardboard breaking down.

  21. Andy Guyett on February 10, 2021 at 5:41 pm

  28. Wicked Moto on February 10, 2021 at 5:49 pm

Damn dude! Thank you so much for all of the amazing info and charts! Now i have a question, would it be better to mount some 4" in the kick and 6.5" in the door aimed per the article given, or could i do 4" in fiberglass A pillars aimed per the article?

  29. el natural on February 10, 2021 at 5:49 pm

  32. Philippe Pelchat on February 10, 2021 at 5:52 pm

Well, the new amplifier and the best on the market is the Quark from Eon-Art (A start-up company). Far better than any other existing product on earth. You can even talk with the creator of the system on Facebook. Very accessible. All audiophil and all experts told after listening music on Quark : I never heard something better than that. No exception. And people who listen many many system. So….

  33. Pimphand Gamester on February 10, 2021 at 5:53 pm

Most people are happy enough with a pretty basic install. Others have absolutely no interest whatsoever. My wife is a perfect example, despite hearing my system, she’s fine with her stock system. She never even mentioned about the SQ differences, she just flat out doesn’t care so long as she can hear her music.
There seems to be a lot of people like that, the type that don’t replace their Apple earbuds unless they stop working and then replace them from a $6 over priced set from CVS.

  34. Aziel Beltran on February 10, 2021 at 5:57 pm

    I love this dudes attitude

  35. HomesteadOC on February 10, 2021 at 6:01 pm

Pretty good, but why would ford build a fancy mach sound system for the Escape and put the tweeters in the door sail panels? Seems like they would know more than you…theres also no MDF to be found.

  36. isaidme0 on February 10, 2021 at 6:04 pm

Can time alignment and crossover points help with tweeters being mounted away from the mid? I’m talking tweeter in dash and mid/mid bass in door in a full size truck like a Ram?

  37. 3rdaxis on February 10, 2021 at 6:06 pm

In the business since the 80’s and let me tell you that the majority of "car stereo" speakers are just toys. Rip off. Home audio speakers are so much better that even the most reasonably priced set is so next level in comparison. Different league all together. I’ve always loved Definitive Technologies speakers and they sell a pair of Pro1000 studio monitors that can handle 300 watts of deliciously detailed sounds clean and crystal fucking clear for 200 bucks. I have always ever run Dev Tec’s in my cars. Top of the line JL’s, Focal, Canton or even Eton’s can’t even come close. No comparison. I haven’t used "car audio" speakers since the late 90’s. And if you do everything Soundman is saying in this video you can achieve something fantastic and wonderful.

  38. RobHTech on February 10, 2021 at 6:10 pm

I’m not sure why anyone with a brain between his two ears would put a main tweeter 24" away from the mid, up high in the sail panel.

  39. M. Carmona on February 10, 2021 at 6:10 pm

Thank you Doug, I knew how to use WinISD but never understood properly what you are looking for in that graph, so for SQ you need plain response along your range, nice!!

  40. ashwin sahadew on February 10, 2021 at 6:14 pm

Watching this (with some Ras Timbre on the background)till #709 comes out… It never gets boring.

  41. 10kevinUSA 09 on February 10, 2021 at 6:15 pm

Question: sound man… dynamat the door panel.. is it a plus? Or do I just do the door I normally do doors but saw you do it on the ford f150

Also keep up the good videos always looking for your content. Good stuff bro

Have you gotten the chance to check out Audio Dynamics specifically there are 3000 or 4000 series components I recently built an SQ system my first and did a lot of homework it was either between Audio Dynamics or focals power K2 series and I was blown away with the performance and crisp clean tone of Audio Dynamics because I’m also building a wall six order series tuned for 218s I only had my front stage to work with I put two 6.5 3000 series drivers in my doors custom fiberglass and the dome tweeters in my a pillars I am running full active with their DSP on their four channel
