AT&T is now letting you pick and choose what cell phone plan everyone in your family gets. Now you don’t all have to have the EXACT same unlimited plan, you can mix and match different lines on the same bill. This will likely save you more money and who doesn’t love customization??? https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Guides/best-att-cell-phone-plans

I SO BADLY want to call this new option from AT&T Mix n’ Match, but that’s what Verizon calls their family plan option… which is why AT&T calls their new family plan choice “Unlimited Your Way” kind of boring and doesn’t totally make sense on it’s own but you gotta get creative I guess when somebody else already has the perfect name. ANYWAYS, Unlimited Your Way lets you pick and choose a different unlimited plan for everyone on your family plan bill.
Now generally when people ask me what cell phone carrier they should switch to, I say a smaller carrier because you get the same coverage and similar benefits but for a better cost… NOW that AT&T has this option for family plans though, i’m inclined to offer this as a great alternative because the cost goes down for every line you add and you get more priority data than smaller carriers.
BEFORE this everyone on a family plan had to have the same unlimited plan… BUT now you can pick and choose who has which unlimited option which will save you some serious cash. For instance it used to be that if someone in your family wanted Elite, you ALL had to have AT&T Unlimited Elite. Now this is a GREAT plan that offers everything in AT&T’s mobile arsenal… You got 100GB of data, a huge hotspot allotment, PLUS HBO Max for free and loads of other offerings, but it’s also the most expensive plans at $85/month WITH autopay discounts factored in. so let’s say you have 4 people on your plan that’s a monthly cost of $200.
Sample cost of plans
Now you’re saving potentially up to $45/Month. Say only one of you needs Elite with all the bells and whistles, and the rest of you only need Starter which comes with Unlimited talk and text, 5G access, but no hotspot or premium data allowance. With 4 lines, one at $50/month (elite), and 3 at $35/Month (starter) that’s a total monthly cost of $155 saving you $45/month or over $500 in savings each year.
Who else has/doesn’t have this?
Now AT&T is a little late to the game here. Verizon has been doing this for a second and as i mentioned it earlier they dubbed this “mix n match” allowing anyone on a family plan to mix and match their plans as long as they are the name-brand unlimited plans. Now the only major carrier that doesn’t offer a customizable family plan is T-Mobile. I had an incredibly frustrating chat with one of the service reps who, after 10 minutes of me asking the same question in different ways, told me, no. you can’t pair different unlimited plans together on a family plan. But I’m guessing T-Mobile isn’t far behind AT&T as many customers find this custom option preferable to a one-size-fits-all family plan. It’s understandable that T-Mobile is behind the times… i mean they did just get done with a multi-billion dollar merger and that transition with Sprint customers isn’t quite finished yet… so we’ll give them a little break.
Why this makes AT&T more palatable
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to switch to AT&T, consider this is it. With this new option you’re going to save money ESPECIALLY if you’re looking to switch up your family plan. Now AT&T doesn’t have as much coverage at Verizon, but it does have more than T-Mobile… AT&T is also cheaper than Verizon…. So AT&T really is a great middle of the road option if you’re looking to save money and have some killer coverage.
Maybe have a cheesy sign pop up that says, “this is your sign to switch to AT&T”
