How to choose the right subwoofer for your car or truck | Crutchfield

If you love bass, whether it’s the mirror-rattling kind or the more subtle kind that adds fullness and nuance to any music, a subwoofer is the way to go. Which sub is right for you depends on many factors, including the size of your vehicle, what music you like, and also the type of installation involved.

Shop for car subwoofers:

All subwoofers need an amp, whether it’s built into the enclosure of a powered sub or mounted separately from the enclosure. The installation for either type is roughly the same; you need to grab power from your car’s battery and then connect signal either from an aftermarket receiver’s preamp outputs or by tapping into factory wiring.

Need help getting started? Watch our video to find out more about installing an amp and sub in your car. A powered sub installation will be about the same as the process described here, except that the amp is built into the sub box:

You’ve got lots of choices when it comes to adding a sub to your vehicle, even if space is tight. Life is too short to live without good bass! You can always contact one of our advisors if you need some guidance, they’ll help you find the right sub for you.

I have a question so I have my radio mostly tuned for my subwoofers but I wanted to ask some questions when I turn my amp off my door speakers like to sound distorted when I turn them up because I have my radio bass bossed. So I’ve been researching and for equalizers so with that I can most likely be able to tune my radio to my door speakers and the eq for my subs right ? If I wanted to then add tweeters can I put them on the same eq even tho im not going to want the settings the same as my subs? With just having the tweeters for just highs and subs for just Lows and then door speakers ran off radio for mids

6.5 sinful sound sub, 500 watt Audiopipe amp in a 2017 tacoma

talk about feeling it in the front seat

  22. 707SonomaComa on January 7, 2021 at 8:20 pm

Is it ok to mix subwoofer sizes? I listen to 70’s & 80’s rock, 80’s & 90’s metal, country, and alternative. No heavy duty bass like dubstep, bassnectar, or rap. I was thinking about a 6.5" behind one front seat & 8" sub behind the other seat both in a sealed enclosure wiht the drivers pointing at the ceiling in a 17 CRV.
Does it matter if you have 2 different subs that are different sizes?

  39. Kukuruz Krupnoklipac on January 7, 2021 at 8:41 pm

Bigger magnet=lower frequency=less kick=less power it needs. It is better to have stronger amp than sub bc most amps are lying.
