Every Video Game Movie Ranked from Worst to Best

Despite being a seemingly endless source of IP ripe for the cinematic treatment, the video game world rarely seems to produce a good movie adaptation. That said, there are a few exceptions to the rule and, based on recent releases, the outlook seems to be improving year on year. We can say that with some certainty because we’ve ranked every single one (so far!) from worst to best.

Rotten tomatoes score of rotton tomatoes: fresh at 97.
Audience score of rotton tomatoes: rotten at 14.

  2. Jordan Leopold on December 21, 2020 at 7:32 pm

You know Tekken is bad when it ranks below a movie that has no score 💀

  3. Frieder Leimenstoll on December 21, 2020 at 7:36 pm

Tekken didn´t deserve the last place, not with that competition.

  4. Hayley Waalen on December 21, 2020 at 7:38 pm

Ranked list of shows based on Toys

  5. zactschp2 on December 21, 2020 at 7:39 pm

Not that it’s a great film, but how did “Little Nemo” not make this list?

  6. Ethan Loureiro on December 21, 2020 at 7:39 pm

If only you waited another couple years, you would’ve had at least one more good one on there 😉

  7. Soldier7sixx on December 21, 2020 at 7:41 pm

The first Mortal Kombat should be much higher than this

  8. Boop Dog on December 21, 2020 at 7:43 pm

“Don’t let anybody tell you that complaining on the internet accomplishes nothing.”

Me: thinks about Nintendo, a company who barely listens to anything Nintendo fans rant and complain about

  9. Gamer 26 on December 21, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Ayyyyyyyyyy professor Layton proving why the Layton series is one of the best. I still need to watch eternal diva. Gonna get it for Christmas

  10. Tandran on December 21, 2020 at 7:45 pm

"The animated Street Fighter is pretty good according to fans"

    Next…

"Assassin’s Creed is a giant pile of shit"

    Who numbered this list?

  11. Colin Walker on December 21, 2020 at 7:45 pm

In the name of the King – Known to me and my mates as "That film where Jason Statham punches a horse".

  12. Gregory Olsen on December 21, 2020 at 7:48 pm

Say what you will about the Ratchet & Clank movie, but Up Your Arsenal wasn’t "The last game worth playing"!

  13. Diego Brandão on December 21, 2020 at 7:48 pm

You guys know that House of the dead have a sequel, right? and its not horrible like the first. It isnt good, just generic and not memorable, wich is a lot in movie games terms.

    Dead space downfall

  15. Ryan G. on December 21, 2020 at 7:51 pm

    Great video. Well done.

  16. The True Bro on December 21, 2020 at 7:52 pm

The Unlimited Blade Works footage is wrong. That movie was made by Studio Deen, and the videos you are using are from the TV adaptation by Ufotable.

The 2010 wished it looked THAT good.

EDIT: also the first Silent Hill movie was actually good, it actually deviates a lot from the game and it works.

    The sequel is forgettable, though.

  17. Zodiac909 on December 21, 2020 at 7:53 pm

Did I miss it, or did they exclude Advent Children??

  18. Gary Stewart on December 21, 2020 at 7:53 pm

I know the rules were stated at the start but it’s almost a crime that Advent Children isn’t on here. I know it’s not beloved by everyone. But it was still a spectacle even you didn’t care for the story. Personally I loved getting more of the FFVII world regardless. I’m still amazed it got made to begin with.

  19. JasonPool on December 21, 2020 at 7:54 pm

Honestly I love the house of the dead movie. It’s awful but that’s why I love it. It’s so bad it’s good.

  20. Muzi Kako on December 21, 2020 at 7:55 pm

Sucks that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was so bad it dragged down the genuinely good Mortal Kombat with it.

  21. Michael L on December 21, 2020 at 7:56 pm

So after watching the first several minutes, I have to wonder who is giving Uwe Boll money to make a movie?

  22. Zackrey Hudson on December 21, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Thank you so much for the content. I really enjoy your videos. I am so thankful I found the channel. Keep up the great work! 🙂

  23. BrutallyHonestGamer on December 21, 2020 at 7:58 pm

Did I miss the terrible Mario Brothers live action movie?? Or was it missed??

  24. Te Kaha Broadbent-King on December 21, 2020 at 7:58 pm

    I’ve seen the Tekken movie

  25. Alec Aquino on December 21, 2020 at 7:59 pm

Why are the British so good at sounding smug at every single opportunity?

  26. Adam Devlin on December 21, 2020 at 8:01 pm

That’s so cool that the Japanese voice cast was so good they put them in the re-release!

  27. Gabriel Pinilla on December 21, 2020 at 8:02 pm

    Silent hill movies?

  28. Duckie on December 21, 2020 at 8:03 pm

Great list, but how could you forget Dragon Ball Evolution? I was excited to see where you placed it, too bad haha

  29. Necroseraph on December 21, 2020 at 8:04 pm

Ah the Tekken movie, I saw it a few months after release. I dont remember much about it as after it finished I silently closed my laptop, grabbed my coat and walked to my local bar. I then proceeded to heavily drink myself into a oblivion with the hopes that I would never remember the previous few hours

  30. ok bye on December 21, 2020 at 8:04 pm

Silent Hill was amazing. Also the Dragon Age movie with Felica Day (?) was pretty decent imo

  31. Richard Harris on December 21, 2020 at 8:04 pm

    10:49-10:54

    You’re welcome XD

  32. sean smyth on December 21, 2020 at 8:06 pm

Anyone remember the Tekken animated movie from the 90’s. I remember it was really good. Surprised it wasn’t included here

  33. Jose Lou Renzo Urbano on December 21, 2020 at 8:06 pm

Detective Pikachu, the Dead Rising Live Action Movie with Harley from Epic Meal Time, and Resident Evil: Vendetta were my top favorite movies.

  34. Kris Justice on December 21, 2020 at 8:08 pm

I mean, to be fair to the existing Resident Evil movies, George Romero’s script wasn’t good either.

  35. Arturo Henrik on December 21, 2020 at 8:11 pm

Really, Tekken as the worst video game movie? In a world where Uwe Boll makes video game movies, Tekken is the worst video game movie… Yeah, sure, makes totally sense! LMAO!!!

  36. Steven Bacon-Cheddar on December 21, 2020 at 8:12 pm

Over 15 minutes in and no Mario Brothers yet…what has science done!?

  37. ChaosArrow on December 21, 2020 at 8:14 pm

What about Final Fantasy seven advent children

  38. JosephDiEgidioIII on December 21, 2020 at 8:16 pm

Why is MKAnnihilation too damn high?

  39. Metro M on December 21, 2020 at 8:18 pm

Anyone who believes in Jesus will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in Jesus and believes in Him will never ever die

  40. Mik Harris on December 21, 2020 at 8:18 pm

    Street fighter 2 animated movie??!

Best game movie and rated 78% on rotten tomatoes…

  41. Dale Husband on December 21, 2020 at 8:20 pm

You didn’t even bother with the WARCRAFT movie?! What a disgrace! It should have been at no. 1!

  42. Forest Skilbred on December 21, 2020 at 8:20 pm

Gotta love how half this video is just him struggling to pronounce japanese movie titles lol

  44. Josh Tatnall on December 21, 2020 at 8:21 pm

Do you want to know something ironic about Need For Speed the movie? Do you want to know what the plot is? Play Ubisoft’s The Crew to find out.

Mortal kombat is the best video game movie! Fight me… In mortal kombat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Icon music plays)

  47. T V on December 21, 2020 at 8:26 pm

    Postal is a cinematic masterpiece.

  48. VSLazer on December 21, 2020 at 8:27 pm

Hot takes: I loved the Sonic movie even though it was just an average desperate cash grab film from Sega, and I thought Detective Pikachu was weird and kinda bad even.

  49. JA AR on December 21, 2020 at 8:28 pm

So John Wick is a better Hitman movie than both Hitman movies.

  50. david gareau on December 21, 2020 at 8:30 pm

I realize I’m probably opening a can of worms nobody wants opened here, but can you do a list ranking every pokemon game from worst to best?
