Hey so i wanted to put the pioneer in my miata, and was wondering what colors to put together for the head unit, if anyone knows what colors for the wires to put together that would be so nice. Or if anyone knows where to find someone who knows.

I have the first one, that brown wire he mentions was for a back up camera which I did install in my car, hooked it to the foglight toggle since the back up light wire is utterly dead.

I’m using a $320 head unit from Ali Express. It’s that ubiquitous 10 inch version running Android with DSP and I absolutely love it. Audio quality is fantastic, and it’s basically an android tablet with a nice amp attached to it. The screen is honestly just as good as a phone screen, and definitely beats the screen of even expensive $700 head units like the one you showed. Using an app called Head Unit Reloaded I could get Android Auto working great, and the steering wheel buttons also work, which are a total must in my opinion. I also have the $170 version of the same head unit and it’s nowhere near as good. It’s slower, the screen is crappy, and audio quality is OK.

I’ve gotta say, your speakers sound like hot garbage and prevent you from actually judging how the head units handle a quality sound signal…

  20. GODAssasin on February 10, 2021 at 5:50 pm

Considering this is worse than a $700 phone it should cost a lot less
    Isn’t that how it works?

Pioneer has a radio for about $80 that has all of the sound and phone options the one in this video does, along with CD rewrite and playback, but without the screen. I forget what it’s called, but if all you care about is sound and auxiliary capabilities (including for subwoofers), then it’s a good one to go with. Sometimes they sell them as a bundle with two 6.5 inch full range speakers for $100. Boss have similar radios. Besides, how often are you going to be looking at a screen when driving?

  37. Angel Auto on February 10, 2021 at 6:08 pm

Pioneer won me over early on. I’ve been using their head units in all my cars for years now. Reliable, great sound quality and friendly interfaces. Plus, there are Pioneer units with way more features like the Kenwood without losing the quality and ease of use.

  38. Scones Connes on February 10, 2021 at 6:09 pm

I just feel like the kenwood was sabotaged to prove a point that it less better than pioneer which is less expensive than it.

  39. paul petarson on February 10, 2021 at 6:09 pm

i have the kenwood head unit. Mine however has DTA ability which compensates for a bad audio environment like a car. The head unit is only part of the system. The head unit runs to a DSP that not only clips the sound to prevent damage to speakers but also turns the sound to digital quality. The car system now sounds like a theater when in listing position. The meastro rr1 is a nice feature that can be added to the kenwood. This system lets you monitor some engine function you do not ordinarily get like intake temp, exhaust gas temp , timing advance/retardation , and many other car systems that can not be seen when running a factory set up.

  42. Jorge Alvarado on February 10, 2021 at 6:11 pm

as a car audio specialist this review didn’t really explain why the kenwood was actually better,. but other wise entertaining atleast

  43. Wan Aidil on February 10, 2021 at 6:12 pm

A sony head unit comes with a dedicated mic, but the way it plays music is exactly like the $50 one. If you go away the bluetooth screen, the music stops

my man zach likes justice, he knows French techno

  45. Mato Hoksila on February 10, 2021 at 6:13 pm

I have owned Kenwood’s flagship nav unit 2017 and I really hated the maestro related apps; I have also used same stereo in another vehicle with maestro and still hated it!
Kenwood uses Garmin for their Nav units and that is a plus.

I now own a pioneer and am happier with their more appealing user interface without all the maestro apps that don’t apply to my vehicle

  46. G XIONG on February 10, 2021 at 6:17 pm

Seems like ya got a cheapo 2020, a 2018 Pioneer, and probably like a 2010 Kenwood.
Next off, ya did your call comparison on the Kenwood at night time with less traffic and commotion.
So maybe even a lower rating score.

IMO, as for sounds, Cheapos always play the norm, Kenwood and Pioneer were head to head, up until the early 2000’s, then for whatever reason, they both got new UI look N styles, but Kenwoods just seemed to get more confusing. Kind of like it was say Made in Germany, if that makes sense to ya. (Like their cars)
Pioneers seemed to fall off a little too, probably due to their cheapo line, and UI, but their sound quality remained the same.
    # 1 in everyday audio and affordability.

Oh, and for the Universal head unit plug pig tails, not needed as ya said, but definitely makes the install alot easier.
For those who dont already have one, ya can buy or get one.
