Are 5G Phones A Waste of Money?

5G is the next generation of internet like LTE, 4G, 3G, and 2G. But better. The only catch is that you need a 5G phone to access and use 5G networks… so the question is, are 5G phones worth the cost?? And if they are, what 5G phones are available?

How do you access 5G
How do you access 5G? Well you need to have a plan that allows you to connect to it, AND you also need to have a 5G capable phone. Because most of the carriers are offering free 5G access with most of their unlimited postpaid plans, that’s not really a problem. The main problem is buying a 5G phone… they’re expensive, and are they even worth it right now?? NO. I don’t think it’s worth it right now and this video will explain why. Let’s take a look at the 5G phones available right now…

Where is 5G?
So where is 5G? Well, the three main networks have all started rolling it out in select cities and states and chances are you live in a state with *some 5G coverage.
AT&T 5G could be for you in these 5 states!
New Jersey 67.14% is covered with 5G
Delaware 51.499%
Ohio 41.305%
Rhode Island 39.25%
Maryland 33.99%

Verizon has so little 5G we’re not highlighting states with the most coverage, we’re looking at cities with the most coverage.
Boston MA

New Jersey 74%
Minnesota 63.6%
Oklahoma 63.3%
Indianapolis 61.9%
Louisiana 59.4%

Which carrier has the most 5G?
Right now T-Mobile has the most 5G with 30% coverage in the united states followed by AT&T with 6% coverage then here’s a shocker US Celluar has .4% 5G coverage and Verizon is coming in last right now with .0014% coverage. SO if you want to use 5G right now, T-Mobile or AT&T is your best bet. If you want to learn more about the plans that offer 5G i’m linking those in the description.

To recap… 5G is available but ONLY in select cities. So to the average person I say you don’t need to invest in a 5G phone UNLESS the 5G phone has cool features you like. You shouldn’t buy a new phone strictly because it has 5G… at least yet. Although i will say that if you live in a city where 5G is accessible, it might be fun to have a 5G capable phone! But remember most 5G is only available outside since most 5G frequencies can’t penetrate buildings…

As phones continue to grow with technology, it makes sense that manufacturers would add in 5G…. So although you don’t need 5G yet these high-end phones are also coming with the best cameras, screens, and battery life we’ve ever seen. Although year old flagship phones are still VERY relevant and amazing devices and if you go with them you’re saving money and getting a great quality device. So bottom line… don’t buy a 5G phone strictly because it’s 5G. Buy it for the camera, the battery life, and other features you care about.

If you’re living on a budget prices can be very high on new products but 5G is nothing to worry about is just a new band added to our cell phones the 5G phones will work on 4G and 5G prices will drop on 5G phones in June or July 2021 because we are dropping the 3G single in the United States

  7. Nick Hoffman on June 14, 2021 at 7:21 pm

I have a Samsung galaxy s21 ultra. The first thing I did was disable 5g. Battery life went from 1 to 2 days. 5g is a waste of time. Trust me, you do not need 500mb/s on a phone. 4g is more than fast enough for everything.

Wow beautiful…now what were you say’n again?

  14. Slender Man on June 14, 2021 at 7:34 pm

You spoke about the availability but didn’t go into the details of why it is needed. I personally feel 4G provides plenty of speed for me right now. Does any phone user need 5G?

I’m confused because on the AT&T 5G map from AT&T it says my city has coverage but when I check the 5G coverage map from whistle out it says my city doesn’t have coverage which should I believe?

1000 usd plus for fcking iphone 12 max pro 5g money rip off useless

  23. Arthur Morago on June 14, 2021 at 7:51 pm

I think 5g phones are a waste of money right now! When 4g came out I paid $1,200 dollars for a 4g phone on AT&T and couldn’t really do anything with it! I took back and didn’t get one until a year later!
So wait a couple of years! Don’t make the same mistake I made with 4g!

  24. G-Mac85 Johnson on June 14, 2021 at 7:52 pm

  25. clamo6362 on June 14, 2021 at 7:52 pm

I would have to say yes. Not enough 5g coverage to warrant a $900 phone. When 50% of the market has the coverage, then maybe.

  27. Randy White on June 14, 2021 at 7:57 pm

I wouldn’t waste my money. It will be years before its widely available. By that time there will be something better. I read to be effective the antennas would have to be about five hundred feet apart to get a reliable network. T-mobile uses a lower frequency so there’s travels farther but won’t be as fast . I’ll wait and see.

  28. Dreamy_ on June 14, 2021 at 8:00 pm

I watched MKBHD’s video on 5G. Then I watched LTT’s video on 5G. Lastly I saw Mr Mobile’s Hawaii 5G video. They are right that smartphone designers really haven’t addressed cpu overheating issues even in WiFi and 4G LTE. High band Millimeter wave 5G is just going to kill battery life and toast CPU’s if there is not sufficient thermal design, cooling, and efficiency.

  29. Jack White on June 14, 2021 at 8:01 pm

Why do u need gig speed anyways do u really want to download a gig in 8secs. If you had to wait a min or two would that be so bad

TMobile’s low band 5G is better suited for inside buildings. I know Verizon is a big player in this field but mmWave 5G requires so many more towers it is hard to see it becoming as widespread as T-Mobile’s low band 5G. That is not even adding their mid-band which they acquired from Sprint which is coming soon. It might be obvious at this point but I don’t see the point in paying more for service at Verizon that has so little 5G coverage that I would have to go looking for it…

  37. Michael Blast on June 14, 2021 at 8:12 pm

So 5G phones can’t penetrate buildings ?? I’m not interested in the 5G feature but the OnePlus I bought has it. I don’t use TMobile tho.. will it affect service for other carriers
