5G: STILL NOT WORTH IT! Here's Why.

We take a look back on our “Is 5G Worth It?” from two years ago. How did what we say hold up over time?

Your comment on data usage is incorrect and misleading. It doesn’t matter if it’s 5G, 4G LTE, 4G, 3G etc etc. It’s the data you’re requesting or sending that matters. As long as the data you’re requesting is the same, the data usage is the same across all network speeds. The only thing that changes is how much you can request and how quickly it can send that to you based on your available speeds.

3G can’t stream 1080P live (or without buffering) because it requires more data per second than it can handle. 4G and up can but it’s still requesting the same amount of data therefore, nothing uses more data. It may seem 3G will use less but that is because many streaming services will compress the data to a lower resolution to match your speeds (so your video doesn’t continuously pause to catch up), therefore, you are no longer streaming 1080p and are now using less data. You could also choose the same lower resolution on 4G and up and use the same amount of data as 3G.

Now if you downloaded a 1080P video file across all these network speeds, it is the same amount of data used no matter what. A 2GB 1080P download is a 2GB 1080P download no matter what network you use. The only thing that changes is how quick you can download it. For an analogy. 3G has a lower highway speed limit. It’s still carrying the same amount of stuff but it’s going to take a little longer to get there. As you move up to 4G and beyond, the speed limit rises and you can get your download quicker. It’s still not bringing anything extra to you though so you still use the same amount of data.

That’s one carrier. Try sprint/T-Mobile. Verizon is a joke on everything including price.

Anyone still after 5G is insanity. Just try and have a conversation about reality to them… They are … nuts! All of them. Crazy as bats. I still haven’t had a normal conversation with any of them yet. They start talking about how I want a dictatorship where no technology exists when I’m literally holding a new Samsung in my hands and just want them to understand a 5G cell tower is not going to help them. Thank you for reactivating my brain by talking actual sense. 5G is a stigma. Any generation above 4GX is a stigma. The only way to get faster speeds to regulate bandwidth. All generations will be slow without regulation. Peace my brothers. Go with love.

It’s all hype just like mostly anything else lately. Nothing like waiting for airtags and find out you need iphone 11 or newer. I have xr.

Thank you guys for helping me make the right decision to buy another 4gLTE phone for 2021. I never complained about the service I get when I’m in an underground subway or away from the metropolitan cities. No matter how high class a phone is, it’s still affected by weather conditions and reach of towers.

Social Credit System: A system where you have a "credit score" based not on your financial responsibility, but on your conformity and loyalty to the government. If you bad mouth the government or aren’t patriotic enough, your score goes down. Score determines things like loan availability, employment options, travel authorizations, etc. Even scarier, is the concept that to raise your score, you can rat out your neighbors for being bad citizens. It’s a way to encourage obedience and submission. Some countries with the technological reach and governmental structure to allow for it, have already started implementing styles of this. It’s terrifying.

I bought an iPhone 12 Pro Max but not for the 5G, not even for the phone actually. For me it’s a handy camera, video camera, pocket computer I can carry with me…if I ever go out again…😏 I’ve turned off my 5G so it isn’t searching for 5G & burning battery. And I’ve been a subscriber for a quite a while.

I can confirm 5G is not worth it got the iPhone 12promax I live in la and I have to switch to my lte to do anything my lte is double the 5G obviously if I’m next to the 5G tower yeah it’s super fast on the speed test but that’s it

  21. Priscilla Ross-Fox on September 1, 2021 at 10:59 pm

I’m sitting here crying. They put up a tower near me. I started feeling really bad maybe a month or 2 ago, I’m not sure.
I also read the ‘fine print’ for my cordless phone which is also hazardous to one’s health. This plus 2 smart meters one just on the other side of the wall from me and the other a few feet on outside wall of my bedroom.
I had to retire early from my career so I’m not eligible to buy another home to try to avoid "Smart" things & towers.
I have a pacemaker/defibrillator in my chest and I’m very frightened it may not work.
Today my thinking was really bad with me not getting my birth date correct! I think all this "Great" technology is not so great for me.

  22. Ironmanix on September 1, 2021 at 10:59 pm

I agree 100%, especially in my area. Although I have a 5G iPhone, I only use LTE for cellular. My apps, mail and music work so much smoother on LTE vs 5G.

  23. Mind Blown on September 1, 2021 at 11:00 pm

5G won’t be worth in 2025 either. Give it about 10 years to be where 4G is today. TEN YEARS.

  25. Jim C on September 1, 2021 at 11:01 pm

The 5G we have here isn’t truly 5G. Compared to the 5G they have coming out of China. If you think your privacy is being intruded on now, wait until true 5G hits our shores. You just better hope it’s the U.S. and not China that knows everything about you, better than your spouse or anyone at that. Do your own research on 5G.

Nice job and video like always

  27. Ben MacDhui on September 1, 2021 at 11:04 pm

Truth is, 5G *never* was about ‘faster’ data. It’s all nonsense

  28. 1DT20CS169 Vinyas S r gowda on September 1, 2021 at 11:05 pm

The strength of 3g network is very less while compare to 2g and 4g network ie strength of 4g and 2g network is approximate equal. But 3g network strength is very less, the strength of 5g network is approximate equal to 3g network. Do you know this reason.

  29. chieduagain on September 1, 2021 at 11:07 pm

I agree that 5G is hype & not worth it now

  30. orlando perez on September 1, 2021 at 11:08 pm

you are my go to guys!

  31. Jacob May on September 1, 2021 at 11:09 pm

At&t is shutting down its 3g networks and pushing its consumers to buy 5g phones threatening that people without 5g phones will not be able to use their network. 5g seems like you said an unnecessary change, with benefits that have no practical uses. So whats the real purpose here?

  32. Makaeo Martinez on September 1, 2021 at 11:09 pm

I am going to infer that neither of you have T-Mobile/Sprint. If you look at the comments most if not all state that T-Mobile with 5g is making a difference. My experience in my area says the same, the current T-Mobile is finally a competitor to AT&T and Verizon.

From what I’ve see Verizon 5g is years away from being useful in most practical uses although their 4G LTE network is great and 5g will help with congestion when the network is built out.

AT&T is also just marketing their 5g. However similar to Verizon their 4G LTE network is great but the truth is 5g is going to add capacity for congestive cases.

All in all find out what works in your area and don’t believe the 5g pied piper. T-Mobile is great…where it’s great and not where it’s not. Same for AT&T and Verizon. To take advantage of 5g you will need a 5g phone and right now the best consistent 5g network in my experience is T-Mobile…but that doesn’t mean they are great everywhere or exempt from network congestion.

I don’t understand the "if you have wi-fi, 5G is useless". I was planning on buying a 5G (mobile)router and getting a 5G SIM card in it so that my wi-fi would be faster…

  42. Will Newcomb on September 1, 2021 at 11:25 pm

Here in the city in China, 5G is AT LEAST 6x faster than LTE! (But it doesn’t make the slightest difference to me! 4G was fast enough for my usage).

  43. Jon Miner on September 1, 2021 at 11:25 pm

The worst thing about 5G is the social credit system. You can see this in action via facebook, twitter, and youtube when they censor politically incorrect individuals. The difference is, 5G will have access to your home, your bank card use, and your purchasing power. Be good or else.

  44. Shatiq on September 1, 2021 at 11:25 pm

    Great explanation.

  45. Uratz on September 1, 2021 at 11:28 pm

What about power consumption per byte for these towers? Are they consuming more power more cost than 4 G towers? How is this sustainable?

  46. Nikoo033 on September 1, 2021 at 11:28 pm

Thanks for clarifying. I had been thinking that indeed 4G is more than enough.

  47. Paulman50 on September 1, 2021 at 11:28 pm

The new phones need a system to limit the speed so as to save data. I watch everything on 480p

  48. Ujjwal Roy on September 1, 2021 at 11:30 pm

I think 4G is more than enough for daily using and sporadically 5G is very costly and difficult to use for everyone.

What is the best way to get fast data outside of cities? I.e. I work on ships and I want to get fast data when I’m a few miles off the coast.
